I have had the very good fortune to have traveled to many interesting parts of the world during my lifetime. Perhaps those that had the greatest impact on me, in terms of my awareness of the struggles of poor people and of women in particular were my visits to the tribal people of the Omo Valley, Ethiopia and the tribal hilltop villages of Irian Jaya, Indonesia. In these societies, where time and modern civilization have had little impact, life continues to be one of constant struggle for survival. Unless these people are given education and the means to help pull themselves out of the cycle of poverty, nothing will ever change. This is why I believe in and support the organizations selected by Dining for Women.
As soon as I discovered Dining for Women, I knew immediately that I wanted to do more than just turn up once a month. I knew that I wanted to "grow" my own chapter, to pull in as many of my friends and associates as I could, to promote and to encourage women to learn more of the outside world, and to give them the gift of being able to make a difference.
For the past thirty six years I have been a Realtor in Santa Cruz, California and this role has led me to make many new friends who I can then invite to experience Dining for Women. I am constantly rewarded by the heartfelt thanks from those friends who now have a new awareness of the plight of women and an opportunity for them to help bring about change. I am excited for the future and look forward to every month when we all gather together for friendship, learning, dining and giving. We are fortunate to be living the good life and we want to share it with the rest of the world.
