Dining for Women (DFW) is an educational giving circle: Our members meet monthly, learn about our featured and sustained programs, and donate to DFW, allowing us collectively to support grassroots international programs empowering women and girls living in extreme poverty. We fund programs that foster good health, education, and economic self-sufficiency in developing countries. We are devoted to educating and inspiring individuals to make a difference and fight global poverty through the power of collective giving.
Due to the nature of our monthly giving circle and member education, grant funding may occur any time during the period of May 1, 2014 – October 1, 2014, or in some cases after that period.
Please note that your organization MUST meet ALL the following criteria to be eligible for a grant from Dining for Women.
- Support women and/or girls who face extreme challenges in developing countries
- Promote self-sufficiency, economic independence and/or good health for women and girls being supported
- Tie funding to direct impact on individuals’ lives
- Provide evidence of long-term sustainability and program success
- Provide prompt and specific reporting about DFW funded program
- Effectively manage a DFW grant ranging between $35,000 - $45,000, which may be distributed over a two-year period
- Direct a minimum of 75% of expenses to programs
- Be a public charity 501(c)(3) US nonprofit organization
- Operate independent of religious or political affiliation
- Provide informative organization web site in English
- Provide relevant educational resources, which includes providing a digital video clip of population served
Dining for Women supports:
- Program funding for women and/or girls, living in developing countries
- Organizations that exhibit a co-investment strategy with those being served
- Organizations that demonstrate fiscal responsibility and future sustainability of their programs
Dining for Women does NOT support:
- Donations to group trusts, foundations or other consolidated funding activity
- Governmental, political or religiously affiliated organizations
- US administrative fees and expenses, and building costs
Dining for Women prioritizes funding for organizations that:
Focus on the UN Millennium Development Goals as pertaining to women and girls
- Are located in a region or country with both extreme need and limited funding resources
- Are organized and led by women from particularly marginalized populations
- Demonstrate ownership and direction by the women being served by the programs
- Indicate community involvement in problem solving
- Can provide support material and information for the education of our members on critical issues women face around the world, including personal stories, photos, program materials, online resources, regional and cultural information, etc.
Dining for Women’s mission as an educational giving circle means that our featured programs vary every month, explore different regions of the world, address diverse issues and emphasize our support of Millennium Development Goals.
Based on our educational mission, the issue areas prioritized for this grant cycle are:
- Policy, Law, Advocacy, Property Rights
- Women’s Healthcare, Reproductive Rights and Family Planning
- Sex/human trafficking
- Food and Water Security
- Environmental Sustainability
Special consideration will be given to programs that support the following geographical areas:
- Asia
- South America
Please note that at this time we are not accepting applications from China and Brazil.
Grantees that were featured in 2011, 2012 and 2013 are not eligible to apply for a grant at this time.
